got my tax return and my first purchase has to be two sets of tires, one for the corrado and one for the a4. figured i'd throw this up hear and let the debate begin. i'm using a car & driver article on summer tire comparison as a starting point and wanted to see what other thoughs the forum has.

i'm shooting for best value overall on the a4 as that car sees more duty and less spirited driving so good performance, good durability, decent price. the corrado i'd be willing to go a bit more performance but still reasonably priced.

quick thoughts from the charts below, the hankook ventus scored pretty good for the price and seem like a fair choice. and a forum favorite, the azenis looked like they were rather poor in comparison.

Azenis RT-615 for the corrado, they are sweet and cheap. And since you dont have syncro they will last a little while

For the audi you do you still plan on running winter tires and wheels right? So that doesnt come into play.

yeah steelies/snows for the audi in winter so i'm looking summer tire, just a little more practical than compared to the corrado

looking at that article the azenis dont compare well and cost the same as others on the list, doesn't mean the article is golden rule, just saying though

There's an $80 rebate on sets of the Falkens right now. I don't think you're going to find a better performance to dollar ratio than the RT-615s.

x2

i'm leaning that way for the corrado, i was looking for high tread ware rating for the a4, but for that price i can deal with the lower rating on the a4 too.

so where do i sign up?

Here's the rebate at Discount Tire: http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/findPromotions.do?pgid=254

They're typically the cheapest anyways too (at least in the 17's I've been buying) since they always have free shipping. A set of 225/45-17s for the GTI would be $364 after the rebate.

There's a $30 instant rebate and a slightly cheaper per tire price at Vulcan, but when you factor in shipping and the Discount Tire rebate, it's still more.

so i think i'm looking at:

corrado - falken rt615 @ $103 ea with $80 mail in rebate
a4 - dunlop dizzera dz101 @ $103 ea with a $50 mail in rebate

for the a4 the dunlops are the same price as the falkens (< $2 difference) but its 300 versus 180 tread ware so i guess thats that. gonna order these up later tonight.

thanks jay for the discount point out.

update:

the dunlop dizzera's are a pretty sound tire so far. they ride buttery smooth with the lowest amount of road noise i've had on the car to date. haven't had great opportunities to tear into 'em from the performance aspect, but they seem to be pretty fair in the little excerise i have given 'em. overall, i'm pretty pleased with them from a first impression stand point, we'll see what the test of time yeilds.
